Introducing the Department of Services for the Blind (DSB)’s Explorers Program for youth ages birth – 13!

DSB now provides services for children under age 13 and their families. To introduce families to this new program, we are hosting in-person and virtual events across the state this summer.

These Meet and Greets are for parents across the state to talk about their children’s needs and interests, learn about available services and resources, and share ideas to support their children.

Families will have the opportunity to:

  • Talk to DSB professionals about the new program and how we can support families with low vision, blind and DeafBlind children age 13 and under
  • Connect with other parents and families in your area
  • Share information and explore resources for your child
  • Gather in kid-friendly spaces

The DSB Explorers is a new program providing experiences and activities for children under age 13 who are low vision, blind, or DeafBlind and their families.

This program is family centered and encourages the whole family to play and learn together. We are focused on providing activities for children who are low vision or blind and building foundational skills in self-awareness, safety, confidence, and social engagement.

Program goals include:

  • Providing social activities and enrichment for DSB Explorers and their families.
  • Fostering independence and confidence through activities and play.
  • Providing connection and support for children and families.
  • Giving parents of infants and
  • toddlers support in getting them moving and exploring their environment.
  • Providing counseling and resources to families.
  • Building social support for parents
  • Creating for experiences and workshops for families and children.

The birth to 13 Explorers program is just getting started and we want your ideas. Please feel free to share how we can support you and your family in your parenting journey, what interests your child, and what activities and learning resources would like to see in the future.
