Careers in Sports

The Careers in Sports Hub is an active 1-day workshop providing students with a grounding in careers in sports or health and wellness – plus a hands-on demonstration of the latest in Assistive Technology!

Students will learn what it takes to pursue a sports or health and wellness career and receive workplace readiness training, job exploration counseling, and self-advocacy practice to prepare for the world of work in the mainstream or disability sports fields.

The day will start with an interactive Assistive Technology (AT) Hands-On demonstration and conversation with Lee Chandler, Washington State School for the Blind’s AT/STEM Consultant. Parents are also invited to explore the cutting-edge world of Assistive Technology and its potential to enhance access in the classroom and beyond.

By the end of the day, students will know more about:

  • Careers available in both mainstream sports and the four major adapted sports.
  • Careers available in health & wellness as it relates to sports.
  • Market research on sport-related jobs.
  • The adapted sport of their choice and how to play it.
  • Instructing or coaching a chosen sport or recreation program.
  • Planning, coordinating, and delivering a sports program for a business or community organization.
  • The Olympics and Paralympics.
  • Disability classifications for competitive sports.
  • Emotional, mental, and physical requirements necessary to be successful in sports.
